Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a major ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Travelers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
