19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

Success also means he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
