Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
