Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
