The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
