Unbowed Wilfried Nancy shows no fear of the sack but Celtic fans show anger following derby defeat.

Wilfried Nancy declared he did not fear dismissal, asserting, “I believe we are extremely close to changing our fortunes,” even after edging perilously close to being fired with a heavy setback against the Ibrox side.

Another Capitulation Results in Old Firm Loss

Celtic had led their oldest rivals at the interval but a second-half capitulation enabled Danny Röhl’s team to pull level on points with the defending league title holders. Nancy, who was appointed in December, has now been in charge for six setbacks in his last eight games.

“We are together with the board,” stated Nancy.

Pressed on his own future, Nancy said: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on discovering solutions to aid my players to be good on details.

The fans made their feelings clear – towards the dugout and directors – by gathering at full time. The board would be most likely to return to Martin O’Neill, who had a fruitful temporary stint last year, if Nancy departs.

“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the reality for the moment. Yet in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am giving up. Not at all. The message is the turnaround is near, imminently close to reverse our form.”

“Really, Really Close”

Nancy remains focused on the fact his team can perform strongly for one half at a time. Indeed, were it not for poor finishing they could have been better than 1-0 up. “I saw enough except the fact that we missed a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but it's important to stay balanced.

“The level we had at times was really, really, really high. This is the reality. And I would not speak so positively if it was different. That is the reason, in terms of results, I mentioned this is the same story. Which is why I feel a change is coming to getting it right. Right now: the fine margins.”

“We produced plenty of positives that we did, once more. The issue now is performing for 90 minutes. My outlook would not be the same. Therefore I am convinced the team can to get back on track.”

Opposition Reaction Response

Rangers manager was cautious about a serious challenge even after what felt like a huge result. “Step by step, and we can really build up momentum,” he said. “The faith in the team is outstanding.”
