Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
